About Gogreen.co.ke

In 2000, the Maxx Infodisk was Kenya's first business directory on CD format It took 3 years to develop using Microsoft design software. The concept was born out of the inefficient presentation of business information available at the time. The paper directory and web based directories were examples of these. The paper directories were basically out of date within a couple months of distribution and cumbersome, while the latter required internet connectivity that was not readily accessible to many. The CD however catered for the 600,000 or so computers in use here in Kenya alone. In addition to search for business names, one could interrogate the database for business locations by e-mail, roads and buildings. The program was easy to install on a laptop or desktop computer and was compatible with windows 98, 2000, Windows NT and XP.

In 2004 however a very proactive approach to technology was encouraged by the new government administration. With the rapid propagation of mobile connectivity, I saw this opportunity to redevelop the data delivery concept to mobile telephone users the only draw back being the handset was required to be GPRS enabled. Thankfully the cost of phones with this feature has not only reduced, but this feature is becoming an industry standard application. The data is interactive and like with so many new products user awareness is the direct challenge.

During the ensuing period, mobile telephone networks have exploded with four players currently operating in Kenya at the moment. The growth of the information and communication sectors continues steadily.

This is where I see the gap in the business information delivery market. With over 17 million handsets and growing in Kenya alone, mobile networks rolling out additional services and general business confidence so dynamic in the region, I realized paper business directory data, will be a thing of the past. Why load and clutter your office or home with volumes of paper business directories when you can simply search what you are looking for right from your mobile telephone. After all, environment friendly policies should be a key part of our thinking. Not to say that paper directories do not have a role, but surely we can make some effort to reduce the plunder and pillage of our foliage.

The vision being, bringing Business Africa Closer, we embarked on melding the East African business community simply by allowing anyone in East Africa with a data enabled and connected telephone access to comprehensive business contacts that are interactive, at a cost that is really virtually free. To make a request for example costs on average 10 Kenyan cents, more than affordable. This has since expanded into a portal with more information services and continues to expand.

The partnership between Safaricom and Gogreen brings this very useful service to millions of phone users. From interactive business mapped contacts to Emergency and Usefull numbers the service is a must have. The Entertainment link coupled with the Tourist Magic Mobile link gives variety to all. We update on a daily basis to stive to provide accurate informative information. We hope Mobinfo will be a part of your lives as it is ours.Asante
